A Bible, a Broom, and a Big Impact

What happens when a maintenance team puts their tools down and opens their Bibles together? At Doulos Discovery School in the Dominican Republic, it’s more than a beautiful moment—it’s a quiet revival.

Mops Down, Bibles Open: The Power of a Simple Bible Study

Every Wednesday afternoon, while most would expect to hear the clatter of tools or the hum of kitchen prep, something deeper takes place on the Doulos campus. In a small workroom, the maintenance, cleaning, and kitchen staff gather—not for tasks, but for discipleship and Scripture.

For six years, Miguel, the leader of our maintenance team, has been quietly guiding this Bible study. What began as a simple desire for spiritual growth has turned into a powerful display of grassroots Christian leadership.

“I saw that many of us went to church,” Miguel says, “but few of us were really growing. I kept thinking: how can we pour into students if no one is pouring into us?

So he began gathering his team to read God’s Word—and everything changed.

The Impact of Everyday Faithfulness

Over time, lives have transformed:

  • Quiet team members began asking deep spiritual questions.

  • New leaders emerged from unexpected places.

  • One staff member recommitted his life to Christ.

  • A couple moved from cohabitation to a Christ-centered marriage.

  • Former conflicts gave way to unity and love.

“Now I see others leading the study,” Miguel says. “They’re not just receiving anymore—they’re becoming teachers.”

This growing community prays together, supports each other through hardship, and even shares financial resources when a teammate is in need. It’s a living picture of servant leadership, shaped by the gospel.

Discipleship for Everyone

This Bible study reminds us of a core truth: discipleship isn’t just for students or missionaries—it’s for everyone.

Miguel’s words capture the Doulos heartbeat:

“If we’re going to raise revolutionary leaders for the Kingdom, it has to start right here—with us.”

March's Highlights

Representing the Dominican Republic in Puerto Rico

Our U15 girls’ volleyball team proudly represented the Dominican Republic in an international tournament in Puerto Rico. It was a life-shaping experience that expanded their worldview and deepened their sense of purpose.

A Month of Prayer and Fasting

Throughout February, our team intentionally fasted and prayed for renewal, breakthrough, and the next generation of teachers and leaders at Doulos.

Medical Missions Near the Haitian Border

Two groups of students served as translators in medical clinics, supporting doctors near the border with Haiti. These experiences helped shape them into Christ-centered servant leaders through real-world impact.

Visiting Teams on Campus

We welcomed multiple visiting teams this month! Their encouragement and hands-on support helped energize both students and staff.
