Public schools in the DR have historically been rated as some of the lowest performing in the world.
This creates not just a literacy problem but a LEADERSHIP problem. Even if they have a heart for the Lord, public school students are not graduating with the foundational skills of critical thinking, problem-solving, innovation, collaboration, and communication that they would need to lead and impact their country.
Private schools do a good job of equipping future Dominican leaders, but, unfortunately, the high cost of tuition creates an instant separation between the “haves” and the “have nots.”
In this context, it can be very difficult to disciple students to have the same passion for justice and heart for the poor that Jesus did. Students often graduate private schools ready to think critically and lead. Without a heart for the Lord, however, the cycles of power, privilege, and generational bondage continue.
In 2002, Doulos was founded to address this leadership problem head-on.
Our goal is to raise up revolutionary Dominican servant-leaders from all social classes to address the spiritual, social, and economic challenges of their country for the glory of God.
Over the past twenty years, as we’ve intentionally worked to bring our mission to life, God has blessed and shaped Doulos into a special place. Doulos has become a vibrant place where otherwise impossible things happen on a regular basis.

Our Model
These are the 5 Pillars of Doulos. They work together to form our unique model for educating and equipping servant leaders to impact the Dominican Republic. If you take one away, it wouldn’t be Doulos anymore. Along with our mission, these pillars form the foundation and focus of everything we do (and don’t do) at Doulos.

Love God, Be a Neighbor
Students and staff are anchored in God’s love and aligned with His ways. They discover God’s purpose for their passions and are empowered to be servant leaders who are actively building God’s kingdom here on earth.

Doulos intentionally mixes the social classes of both its students and staff. This creates a powerful sense of empathy and kinship that breaks down long-held, class-based prejudices.
