Statement of Faith

As leaders of Doulos Ministries, we join together with Doulos Discovery School (all board members, directors, teachers, missionaries, and staff) in affirming the following articles of the Christian faith which ground us to live out our purpose of equipping and educating servant leaders through Christian discipleship and expeditionary learning to impact the Dominican Republic.

Article I

The Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments, being given by divine inspiration, are the Word of God, and the authoritative source in all matters of faith and life.

Article II

In the Scriptures, God reveals Himself as the living and true God, creator of all things. Perfect in love and righteous in all His ways, this one God exists eternally as a Trinity: the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.

Article III

God made man and woman in His image that He might have fellowship with us. Being estranged from God by our disobedience, we are, as sinful people, incapable of a right relationship to God apart from divine grace.

Article IV

The mediator between God and all human beings is Jesus Christ, God’s eternal Son, who through a life of obedience and sacrifice, and by his death in our place, has removed our sin and reconciled us to God.  Having risen bodily from the dead and ascended into heaven he rules as Lord.

Article V

The Holy Spirit, through the proclamation of the Gospel, continually calls to our life, guides us to repentance, and creates and sustains our faith so we might trust in Jesus Christ as Lord.  By the same spirit we are led to trust in divine grace, believe in the forgiveness of our sins, and live as servants of Christ in the world, to the glory of God.

Article VI

God, through His word and Spirit continues to draw people into the fellowship of Christ’s body.  Through many forms of the Christian church God calls people into relationship with him, blesses us through the sacraments and the preaching of the Gospel, and makes disciples who seek to imitate Christ by serving God and others through acts of love and justice.  God’s final redeeming work will happen when Christ returns to judge the living and the dead and establish his everlasting and glorious kingdom.

Article VII

We believe that the term marriage has only one meaning: the uniting of one man and one woman in a single, exclusive union, as delineated in Scripture. We believe that God intends sexual intimacy to occur only between a man and a woman who are married to each other. We believe that God's command is that there be no sexual intimacy outside of or apart from marriage between a man and a woman.

We believe that God wonderfully foreordained and immutably created each person as either male or female in conformity with their biological sex. These two distinct yet complementary genders together reflect the image and nature of God.
